TNGlobal reported on October 19, 2026 that GoTo-AI-Gemma-3-27B-IT had been presented during Bali Tech Week. GoTo’s public repository makes the actual model card available for inspection. Developers therefore have a concrete artifact to assess, rather than only a promise of a future locally focused AI product.

What has been published

The card describes a 27-billion-parameter instruction-tuned model developed by GoTo and AI Singapore using Gemma 3. It lists English, Indonesian, Javanese, Sundanese, Batak Toba and Balinese. It specifies a 128K-token context and approximately 54–60 GB of video memory for FP16/BF16 inference. The license label is Gemma. These are accessible weights, not a claim that the software has no licensing conditions.

TNGlobal places the project within GoTo’s broader Indonesian-language work. The event date comes from its October 19 reporting; we do not infer a first-release date merely from a README modification. Nor do we turn a supported-language list into an independently measured guarantee for every dialect or application.

Language testing should match the product

The card references IndoMMLU among its evaluations. The original research behind that benchmark uses Indonesian educational questions and local cultural context. It illustrates why an English-only general test cannot fully assess a local-language task. An educational benchmark nevertheless differs from customer conversation, searching a company archive, or interpreting brief regional messages.

Our proposed example is a service answering delivery questions. A team could prepare realistic requests in its selected languages, predetermined correct answers and cases with insufficient information. It would then assess understanding, answer accuracy and recognition that information is missing separately. This is a suggested evaluation design, not an experiment SIExpo has performed with GoTo AI or a claim about its measured deployment performance.

Results should be separated by language and request type. A single aggregate can hide a weakness affecting the very group the service intends to reach. We recommend review by native speakers, particularly where meaning depends on local usage or a cultural reference. We are not publishing an unverified ranking against competing models or assuming that a large parameter count settles those questions.

Local execution is a separate engineering choice

The memory estimate describes a particular numerical precision, rather than a universal requirement under every configuration. Teams should measure their chosen setup with realistic input lengths and concurrent demand. If they choose a different representation of the weights, both quality and memory use need another assessment. Public availability does not eliminate serving costs or the work of maintaining the surrounding application.

A reproducible pilot should record the checkpoint, tokenizer, test set and generation settings. That allows a later change to be compared under similar conditions, rather than relying on impressions from a few successful conversations. These are our assessment recommendations, not additional reported results or a claim that a particular hardware configuration has been tested by our newsroom.

Our editorial conclusion is that a local model is valuable when it makes language coverage more inspectable. Deployment still requires an exact artifact, reviewed conditions and an application-specific evaluation. GoTo AI adds another option for that process. Its publication does not establish that it is best for every Indonesian user or ready for every sensitive use case.
